GUAR: Day One: Iron Maiden

*** Tuesday 3PM ***

After a weekend on monitor duty, and the week before of cross-training, Leah was happy to have a day off. She sat at an café enjoying the cloudless Denver afternoon and wondering just when she would hear back from her editor. She'd sent Ellen the manuscript for 'Resistance is Feudal' a week ago. Anxious as she was to hear back on it, Leah knew what Ellen would say: "Start on the next one now."

GUAR: Day One: Wild Lotus

Tuesday 3:14PM

Monitor duty was something that no one really like; but Bellar was emphatic that each member of the take a shift per week. It was eight hours of boredom; but no one seemed to mind if you the supercomputer to surf the internet ... even gaming sites.

Today was busy. Wild Lotus saw that Iron Maiden was dealing with some kind of robbery. Shimmer was helping out the DPD with a hostage negotiation that involved a metahuman named Hellfire (no known file). Sniper was working with the Secret Service and AEGIS to find an international assassin and now ... Agents of Doctor Destroyer were breaking into a high-tech lab in south Denver. She was listening to Bellar speak with Paladin while watching the security footage along with them.

Time Rifters, Episode 1, Chapter 12.1: Into the Depths

Kitsune and Black Cat led the way as they continued down the path. The sounds of the forest continued to be spooky and shadows still tried to flirt with some of the weaker willed among them, but for the most part the mentalist had helped everyone balance the effect of the forest spirits...or as some might fear, help them ignore what was actually a very real threat.

OOC: I took the liberty of collecting the three relevant blog posts here in an actual game move that we can both edit. Once the game gets going, this page can be made a child page of any other page and better organized.

She had a good amount of money still. That didn't stop the fact that she was used to doing something during the day. Waiting tables, hauling boxes or barrels or bags. Looking after children. Helping in the Waltz's kitchen. Something.

TCQ: Cardinal Sin (Part 2) - Under a Blue Moon

De’Roy Harris, D-Train as he was known on the street, was nearly out of breath when he tripped and fell on the roof. Still, he had been lucky to make it up the stairs with his pants half-on. The former All-City running back felt bits of gravel bite into his knee and the hand he caught himself with. He pushed himself off the ground, scared for his life. His heart beating so loud, his breath so ragged that he didn’t notice the crunch of asphalt and gravel crunch under booted foot.

Cough. One silenced round came spitting out of the end of the vigilante’s pistol.

EDD: Investigation 1: The Body

Earl Shockley ran the funeral parlor in town, as well as acting as undertaker, graveyard caretaker, mortician and coroner. The front room of his two story Sears house was a standard funeral parlor - heavy velvet drapes, padded seats, a small dais for the coffin and eulogists, too many candle sconces for any reasonable dwelling. In many ways, a funeral parlor was decorated like a high end brothel for the deceased.

TCQ: Prequel -- Cartel Cocktail (Part 4)

Soldier Boy and Raven were Running the Numbers, that was the slang term that Freetowners used for those brave enough, strong enough or street smart enough to survive walking through that section of town. The Numbers was, arguably, the most dangerous part of Freetown, nearly two miles of housing projects, where the people in the lower levels were more likely to sleep on their floor at night than in their bed. Drive by shootings and gang wars was the life for those unfortunate enough to live there, terrified by the hold that the rivaling gangs held on their everyday life.

TCQ: Prequel -- Apostate (part 6)

It was the longest walk of her life. And one she would not soon forget. As they moved north, away from the Numbers, and crossed over from Freetown into Riverside Hills, Ophilia felt a wave of relief. Not that she felt especially safe in Riverside, certainly not at this hour, but it was different here -- for some reason, she felt like the worst was behind her.

TCQ: Prequel -- Devil Within (Part 5)

Ardent could feel the pulse of the sidewalk under his feet as they approached the address of the Succubus Club. If it hadn't been for Stacey, he would have never suspected to find a college club in a building that looked this old and derelict. The entrance to the club was located in an alleyway and the signage on the door showed the visage of a large breasted demonic woman, drawn in blood red.

FnG: Days Like These

The peal of the Market Bell, signaling the opening of Povero's massive open marketway, rang out across the Riverside. Deep shadows from the buildings overlooking the river, combined with thick mists drawn from the Diamondflow by the morning sun, cloaked the entire district enough that the very few people wandering the streets and alleyways could see but a few feet in front of them as they walked.

DG-SoH:BK1 - Out of the Cradle (5)

The snow that fell two nights ago still lay thick upon the ground, as the first great icing of Northreach had come. The frost tendrils of winter lay just over the horizon, but the snow had begun to fall in the early hours after the assassin’s attack. The crisp, clean, silencing cover cast a wondrous blanket of softness to the edge that the combat had formed, and the world seemed almost fresh. Almost.

FnG: Days Like These, Part 2

The man glared at the group before taking a deep breath, obviously trying to calm himself. "Duke Tyneman is a sovereign noble, who rules his own lands. As such, he has the Gods-given noble right, commanded by Arvessin himself, to pursue those who offend against him wherever they might travel. This man..." the guard sputtered, shaking the wanted poster. "This man is a thief who dared take the Duke's property, and he commands the assistance of commonborn such as yourself in this criminal's apprehension! Now... answer true... have you seen this man?"

TCQ: Prequel -- The Purifier (Part 1)

The Purifier looked once more at the now blessed body that rested peacefully on his operating table. She could no longer feel the cold stainless steel surface against her bare back, and her panicked screams had died out long before her body found the sweet peace of death. He bent over her and kissed the now pale skin that covered her forehead.

He never looked forward to the Harvest Festival. Not even a little. It wasn't simply his aversion to physical sports, no real art or craft or knack with the livestock; he was never the competitive sort, so these contests never inspired him. He hadn't his older brothers' strength or dexterity, or his younger brother's creativity, or even his sister's dashing looks or charm. And he had long since accepted his father's disapproval for it, as well.

The summer sun was high in the East and beating down like Gene Tunney on Casper Milquetoast by the time the fledgling team arrived at mile marker 23. Route 206 was paved at very rare intersections and a few gulleys where a sudden rain would wash out a dirt road. The rest of it was graded, packed earth, and as straight as a knife edge. The surrounding countryside was pancake flat scrubland with mountains in the miles-off distance. Ahead a few miles on the road was the turn off for the small road that led to the smaller mountain town of Dwyer.

FwD: Burn Out: Chapter 5

The members of the Tool Shed rolled down 360 as a casual convoy. Cal's HMMV trailed Honey's Price-driven coupe in the late evening traffic, which was fairly heavy. They blended in with their fellow Texans and as they did so, perhaps had a thought or two about the people they had been enlisted to serve and protect.

The Alamo was still twenty minutes away when Benjamin Franklin, the team's handler, called into both vehicles simultaneously. His image appeared on the screen installed into the console dash of the two cars.

“Come on come on come on!” Nemesis leapt across another alley and skidded to a halt on the building, the gravel and roofing detritus almost taking his feet out from under him. He stopped to catch his breath a moment—running, jumping and vaulting sixteen blocks took a lot out of a man. He shook his head and pulled off his mask for a moment. Sweat plastered his hair around the temples and forehead. He wiped at his face and forced himself to take several long, slow, deep breaths. He checked his watch and shook his head.

As Mayhem dropped from the Falcon, the air began rushing towards her, swirling in chaotic waves as it cloaked her in it's protective embrace. She hovered in the air to survey the scene below them, watching as Dynamo dropped to confront the lone villain.

Dynamo stopped just in front of the gray-man, hovering about 3 feet off the ground. "By order of the New York Police Department, put the weapon down and surrender. Now."

The atomic hero had no real belief that this man would surrender; but he hoped to buy his team another few seconds to get those injured away from the combat.

The Conquistadors

I'd like to dedicate this game to Andy Matthews aka Koslov, and LCG's own Minister of Excellence. He was the player that originally talked me into running this campaign again, and played a major part in getting her up and running. Sadly he passed away on December 2nd, 2008. He will be sorely missed as both a friend and a part of our cast. This is my small way of acknowledging how important he was to this game and to his fellow gamers.

TCQ: Prequel -- The Purifier (Part 3)

Advisory. This piece contains nudity and graphic violence.

Fabian took great care as he strapped Celeste to the surgical table, his movements were steadied and unhurried. He strapped her lifeless arms and legs and double checked each of her bonds, even though there was little to no chance that she would ever feel the floor beneath her feet again. No one had ever survived his purification process, the savior could never wait for his gift, and sometimes took them before they were completely cleansed.

TCQ: Prequel -- Devil Within (Part 7)

Edison Palmer navigated the stairs leading down, somewhat clumsily, holding onto the ancient hand rail as he went. The lighting was poor here and the steps were creaky with age, not at all in good repair like the upper two levels of the club. With each step down, he began sinking back into the vision, deeper and deeper, making the real world almost invisible. There was a new mood to this spectral reality, an unsettling sense that something was waiting below. He nervously tugged at the good luck charm under his shirt and found it cold to the touch.

TCQ: Webisode 1.1: (Part 1) Staff Meeting

The last quarter of the year had been a whirlwind affair for those select few individuals that were chosen to be among the DiSantiago’s historical endeavor to sponsor a team of superheroes in Hudson City. The city was notorious for it’s high crime rate, constantly jockeying between the five top slots in the nation, and desperately in need of some semblance of organized law that worked for the citizens and not for the highest bidder. The team would be comprised of some of Hudson City’s finest heroes, as well as some up and coming new comers to the crime fighting scene.

TCQ: Prequel -- Cartel Cocktail (Part 5)

Soldier Boy had no problems remaining unseen, even without his years of stealth operations, nothing could have torn the Nubian's eyes off of the ominous form of Shift. Raven remained front and center, but somehow she too was hidden in plain sight. Static electricity was simmering in the air above the rooftops, bolts and streams of light played in the sky, running horizontally above them, in a most unnatural display.

TCQ: Prequel -- Devil Within (Part 6)

Ardent and Stacey watched raptly as the patrons of the Succubus Club meandered between the dance floor and the bar area in front of them. The bar was hopping with a steady stream of people being juggled by two competent bar tenders. The dance floor was harder to see, the strobe lights flickered chaotically and slithered over the dancers. The women in aviator goggles and spiked boots continued to writhe seductively in their cages, and everything seemed exactly the same.

SOHK Chapter 7b: The Doctor Will See You Now

Wraith had done some reading on this machine. It was, to use tired vernacular, all Chinese to him, but he got the jist of it. Most of these machines, with their incredible complexities and variances, boiled down to similar operating procedures that made them manageable, even serviceable, to someone who simply took the time to read the instructions.

"I have no idea what I'm doing!" he typed, frantically, trying to keep up with the chaos around him.

"It's all about the colors. You gotta grab your color super quick. But never red or brown. Those are always MINE." The quirky brunet seemed quite serious about whatever she was babbling about.

"And whatever you do, don't erase what came before -- that's impolite," the GM added with a smile. "Scene setting and combat resolution are time consuming and -- oh hell. HLEP. Excuse please."

FnG: Days Like These (Once More With Feeling)

The man glared at the group before taking a deep breath, obviously trying to calm himself. "Duke Tyneman is a sovereign noble, who rules his own lands. As such, he has the Gods-given noble right, commanded by Arvessin himself, to pursue those who offend against him wherever they might travel. This man..." the guard sputtered, shaking the wanted poster. "This man is a thief who dared take the Duke's property, and he commands the assistance of commonborn such as yourself in this criminal's apprehension! Now... answer true... have you seen this man?"

Cz: Humble Beginnings

The winds shifted from the West, to the South, as they did every Spring. They carried warm air up over the Dry Horn, past the city of Okarop. The land rose after that and the winds dumped rains, and melted the snows. Birds returned, bears woke from their long slumbers, and humans, well, in the Four Rivers, the humans emerged from their homes, and began preparing for the warm growing season ahead.

DG-SoH:BK 1 - Out of the Cradle (6)

The reunion was short-lived as Guurnk pressed Coren for their departure. The first mate had made certain the animals were loaded safely before the passengers and their gear. It quickly became apparent that the crew was efficient and good at what they did, and that Guurnik was more than comfortable at his job. He excelled. Even Yahim was impressed with the way he controlled the flow of the crew as they went about making final preparations for departure. Tob noticed how Guurnik would issue commands without hesitation and with just a glance and nod. More importantly the men responded.
